Session Outcomes:

  • increased awareness of the issues involved in being an effective online moderator (emoderator)
  • strategies for hosting successful online chats
  • strategies for hosting successful online asynchronous discussions


ACTIVITY ONE

  1. everyone go the Gasbags chat room and introduce yourself
  2. answer this question: how can you guarantee this chat session is a complete disaster?
  3. now answer this question: how can you guarantee that this chat session is successful?

ACTIVITY TWO

  1. split into two chat rooms (Gasbags and the Podium)
  2. chat for 5 minutes on this topic: John Howard's policy on refugees is good for Australia
  3. decide who will summarise your discussion
  4. return to the main group in the Gasbags room
  5. one person from each group summarises the discussion

ACTIVITY THREE

  1. go to the discussion board (forum) area
  2. enter the Chat Experience Summary Forum
  3. write a brief summary (5 - 10 lines) of activities one and two
