This is an exercise practising the THIRD conditional. These are a bit harder than those in Assignment 2 (first conditional).

IF SENTENCES IN THE PAST

Examples:

*If I HAD KNOWN you were sick last week I WOULD have gone to see you.

*If someone HAD TOLD me how hard this course was I WOULDN'T HAVE   DONE it.

Now try these:

Rewrite the following sentences using the correct form of the verb in brackets.

1. If Tom (miss) the train, he would have been late for the interview.

2. I (forget) if you hadn't reminded me.

3. We wouldn't have stayed at that hotel if George (not/told) us about it.

4. I would have sent you a postcard if I (have) your address.

Now try writing an 'if' sentence for the following situations.
